I stayed at the Blackburn Cabins in late September and it was amazing! Livvi and Mark are great hosts and made my stay very easy and comfortable. They gave me a ride to and from the cabins (from the bridge) and provided a tour of the grounds. The cabin was the perfect size with two queen beds, a small kitchen, and a table. There was also a heater and windows that opened, depending on what you're looking for. The showers and outhouses are behind the cabins, facing the woods, which is beautiful. The town of McCarthy is about a mile(?) down the road and the toe of the Root Glacier is within walking distance and were such cool places, respectively. Also got to hike onto the Root Glacier, via the town of Kennecott, with crampons that you can rent. I will definitely come back here some day! Stayed at Blackburn Cabins June 2 and 3, 2017. Great experience! Very close to town walking or using one of their many bicycles; rustic yet clean and accommodating; friendly and helpful hosts/owners – Mark and Livvi; adventurous advice on where to go, what to see. McCarthy is a one-of-a-kind place and it ought to be on everyone's list to go see (just plan on at least 2 days). I'd strongly advise staying at Blackburn Cabins! My experience staying in Blackburn Cabin was AWESOME. The little town of McCarthy is the place that you must go. We were very lucky to choose Blackburn Cabin. Cabin's owner, Livvi, is so nice to give us ride and a little tour in town. The cabin has a little kitchen and heater, very comfortable beds. They also provide bikes for us to explore the little town. There is very nice trail next to the cabin leading to a lake from where you could see Root Glacier. It's fantastic quiet place and we saw the most beatiful sunset ever. People living in this town are all friendly. Blackburn Cabin and McCarthy is the best part of my first Alaska trip. Wonderful place with very nice and friendly hosts! Would recommend to anybody. Thanks Mark and Livvy Beautiful cabins. Beautiful area to explore.
